Wimpy’s Act of Goodwill

On Wednesday, 18th January

It is our opinion that there aren’t enough ‘feel good’ stories in the news these days. So it came as a welcome surprise when this story popped up on my feed yesterday, and i can’t help but read it and whack a big smile across my face.

The story comes from none other than fast food chain Wimpy and it is aimed towards the visually impaired, allowing them to read menus with the help of braille inscriptions. Not only are all Wimpy menus now available in braille, but Wimpy advertised the fact by launching a heart warming marketing campaign to let the visually impaired in on what they’re planning.

It doesn’t take much to figure out that the traditional style of advertising was never going to work for Wimpy on this one, so they had to get creative. With a pair of tweezers, a handful of sesame seeds and some serious perseverance, Wimpy chefs painstakingly placed individual seeds on each bun to make a personalised message on 15 freshly prepared burgers. For instance, one message read “100% Pure Beef Burger Made For You”, spelt out in brail with not a lot of room for mistakes.

Once baked and made into 15 delicious looking burgers, they were then distributed to a handful of people from visually impaired institutions in South Africa. Wimpy filmed their  reactions and made it into an uplifting piece of advertisement that restores some faith in the good of mankind.

This small gesture may be just that- small- but we think if everyone followed in Wimpy’s footsteps then we’d all have a little bit of faith restored and a beaming grin for the rest of the day.
