We don’t know about you, but knowing that our friends, family and colleagues are watching something really makes us here at Grape eager to jump on the bandwagon. Being a social bunch, who can blame us for wanting a juicy storyline to natter about over an afternoon cup of tea?
So it comes as no surprise that we are thrilled to hear of the new Time Out TV guide currently in development, that combines our love of social networking with our equal love of all things on The Box.
It’s been almost 30 years since Time Out began their global revolution into publishing listings and travel guides for cities all over the world. Not only did they change the nature of the UK’s entertainment press, but they challenged the way we once saw leisure. So in true Time Out style, this time they’re reinventing the way that we watch television.
By launching what they hope will be the next generation of TV listings, Time Out will allow viewers to share their experiences if they know their friends and family are turned in at the same time.
Through Facebook and Twitter fans can ‘like’ or show that they intend to watch certain television shows, whilst friends can discover ‘hotspots’ or programmes generating a particular amount of social media activity.
This relationship between linear TV and social media could be the future of television and although Apple TV have been hinting for some time at reinventing this most popular form of entertainment, it would seem that Time Out got there first!
Now, we agree that there is a definite need for a personal TV guide, combining our love for socialising and our interest in T.V., however do we need our nearest and dearest to know just how much rubbish we actually watch? Perhaps we should start calming it down on The Biggest Loser and Man V Food and get more into QI…
