The power of social media astonishes us here at Grape Digital more and more each day. And this day is no different!
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock with no internet connection, 3G, or means of logging on to any form of social networking site for the past few weeks, then we’re sure you’ve seen the heartwarming story of 3 1/2 year old Lily and her correspondence with Sainsbury’s.
If however, you have missed out, then let us fill you in…
In May 2011, Lily Robinson wrote to Sainsbury’s to suggest that they should in fact rename their well loved tiger bread after a giraffe instead. Chris King, who we are sure has been given a raise, promotion and plenty of pats on the back since, replied with a touching letter agreeing with her decision, aptly signing his name, Chris King 27 1/3.
A snapshot of the two letters spread feverishly across the web, like all great things do when uploaded online, and Sainsburys were forced to give in to popular demand.
“In response to overwhelming customer feedback that our tiger bread has more resemblance to a giraffe, from today we will be changing our tiger bread to giraffe bread and seeing how that goes,” the supermarket said.
So, next time you’re in Sainsburys, pick up a loaf of Giraffe bread and think of Lily Robinson, 3 1/2, and Chris King, 27 1/3. They received over 48,000 shares and 150,000 likes off just one post and, without realising it, changed the fate of a loaf of bread forever… well for the foreseeable future at least.
